    How word to text works

    1

    Choose your .docx

    Drop in the document.

    2

    Text is pulled locally

Paragraphs keep their line breaks, list items are prefixed with a dash, and table rows come out tab-separated.

    3

    Download the .txt

Plain UTF-8 text — opens anywhere, in anything.

    What you get

A UTF-8 .txt file with the document's paragraphs in order. Line breaks inside a paragraph are preserved, list items are marked with a leading dash, and each table row becomes one line with tab-separated cells — paste that into Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets and it lands in columns.

    What is deliberately dropped

Everything that is formatting rather than content: fonts, sizes, colors, images, headers and footers. That is the point of the tool. If you want the layout too, use Word to PDF instead.

    Useful when

You need to paste a document into a tool that only takes plain text, strip inherited formatting before rewriting something, feed text to a script, diff two drafts as text, or read a .docx on a machine with nothing installed that opens Word files.

    Word to Text — FAQ

    Does it keep tables?
The content, yes — each row becomes a line with tab-separated cells, which pastes cleanly into a spreadsheet. Borders and cell formatting are dropped.
What encoding is the .txt file?
UTF-8, so accented, Cyrillic and Greek characters survive intact.
Can it read a scanned document inside Word?
No. If the .docx only contains pictures of text there is no text layer to extract, and the tool says so — that needs OCR.
Are headers, footers and footnotes included?
No. The converter reads the document body, so headers, footers and footnotes are not part of the output.
